Test A: Warning Indicator Is On With Engine Running, System Is Not Charging

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Measure voltage at generator B+ terminal. See Fig 1. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Yellow/White wire between generator B+ terminal and fusible link. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  2. Disconnect generator 3-pin electrical connector. Measure voltage of Orange/Light Blue wire at generator connector terminal "A". See Fig 2. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Orange/Light Blue wire between generator and Gray fusible link "C". See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Reconnect generator 3-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage of Light Green/Red wire at connector terminal "I", by backprobing generator connector. See Fig 2. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between generator and instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Start engine. With engine running at 2000 RPM, turn headlights and rear defogger on, turn blower motor to high speed. Measure voltage drop of Yellow/White wire between generator (B+ terminal) and positive battery terminal. If voltage drop is less than .5 volts, go to next step. If voltage drop is greater than .5 volts, repair high resistance in Yellow/White wire between generator and Gray fusible link.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove generator from vehicle. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between voltage regulator terminals "A" and "F". If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace generator. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace voltage regulator. See VOLTAGE REGULATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
