Removal & Installation (Villager)

  1. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Disconnect both battery cables. Wait one minute to deplete air bag back-up power supply. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & AIR BAG . Remove driver side air bag module.
  2. Remove lower and upper steering column shroud. Remove bolts and instrument panel reinforcement. Remove heater duct upper screw and heater duct.
  3. Remove transmission range indicator. Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector. Disconnect air bag sliding contact connectors. Disconnect key in reminder electrical connector.
  4. Disconnect shift lock actuator electrical connector. Remove multi-function switch from column. Remove overdrive cancel switch electrical connector.
  5. Remove steering column clamp bolt. Remove steering column mounting bracket nuts. Remove cable from ball socket. Slide cable housing from column. Remove column from vehicle.
  6. To install steering column, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure all components operate properly.
