Test Z: Theft Indicator Is Never/Always On

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If THEFT indicator is always on, go to next step. If THEFT indicator is not always on, go to step  3.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) module connector C264. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If THEFT indicator is illuminated, go to step  4. If THEFT indicator is not illuminated, replace PATS module. See appropriate PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article and go to step  5.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250c. Disconnect PATS module connector C264. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 7 (Orange/Red wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250c. See Figure. If battery voltage is present, repair short to power in Orange/Red wire and retest. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250c. Measure resistance of Orange/Red wire between terminal No. 7 at instrument cluster harness connector C250c and terminal No. 2 at PATS module harness connector C264. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster terminal No. 7 (Orange/Red wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250c. If resistance is 5 ohms or less between instrument cluster and PATS module and more than 10 k/ohms between instrument cluster and ground, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and PATS module and less than 10 k/ohms between instrument cluster and ground, repair short to ground in Orange/Red wire and retest.
  5. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace PATS module. See appropriate PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article. If problem does not exist, then system is operating properly at this time, clear any DTCs and retest.
