Test Y: Speed Control Indicator Is Never/Always On
CAUTION:
Use correct probe adapter when taking measurements. Failure to use proper adapter may cause damage to connector.
- Test drive vehicle and operate speed (cruise) control system. If speed control system operates correctly, but CRUISE indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator is illuminated all the time, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect speed servo connector C1067 (gasoline) or PCM connector C1027 (diesel). For gasoline engine, connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Orange/Light Blue wire) at speed control servo harness connector C1067. For diesel engine, connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 45 (Orange/Light Blue wire) at PCM harness connector C1027. See Figure. If CRUISE indicator illuminates, replace speed control servo (gasoline) or PCM (diesel). If CRUISE indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250b. For gasoline engine, measure resistance of Orange/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 1 at speed control servo harness connector C1067 and terminal No. 13 at instrument cluster harness connector C250b. See Figure. For diesel engine, measure resistance of Orange/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 45 at PCM harness connector C1027 and terminal No. 13 at instrument cluster harness connector C250b. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Orange/Light Blue wire and retest.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect speed servo connector C1067 (gasoline) or PCM connector C1027 (diesel). If CRUISE indicator illuminates, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator does not illuminate, replace speed control servo (gasoline) or PCM (diesel).
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250b. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 13 (Orange/Light Blue wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250b. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Orange/Light Blue wire and retest.
