Test X: Water In Fuel Warning Indicator Light Inoperative (Diesel)
- Disconnect water in fuel switch connector C158. Connector C158 is located in center of engine compartment, on fuel heater. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Gray/Red wire) at water in fuel switch harness connector C158. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If WATER IN FUEL light illuminates, replace water in fuel switch. If WATER IN FUEL light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM connector C1027. Measure resistance of Gray/Red wire between terminal No. 36 at PCM harness connector C1027 and terminal No. 1 at water in fuel switch harness connector C158. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Red wire and retest.
- Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 28 (Red wire) at PCM harness connector C1027. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to START position. If WATER IN FUEL light illuminates, see SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (DIESEL) article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If WATER IN FUEL light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250a. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance of Red wire between terminal No. 28 at PCM harness connector C1027 and terminal No. 11 at instrument cluster harness connector C250a. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red wire and retest.
- Remove WAIT TO START indicator light bulb. Test bulb for continuity. If bulb is not okay, replace bulb. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
