Test U: 4X4/Low Range Indicator Light Inoperative (Manual Shift)
- Disconnect 4x4 switch harness connector C161. Connector C161 is located below center of vehicle, near digital transmission range sensor. If 4x4 light is inoperative, connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire) at 4x4 switch harness connector. If LOW RANGE light is inoperative, connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Light Blue/Black wire) at 4x4 switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If light illuminates, replace 4x4 switch. If light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check inoperative indicator bulb. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If bulb is okay, go to next step. If bulb is not okay, replace bulb.
- If 4x4 indicator light is inoperative, measure resistance of Light Blue wire between terminal No. 2 at 4x4 switch harness connector C161 and terminal No. 4 at instrument cluster harness connector C250c. See Figure. If LOW RANGE indicator light is inoperative, measure resistance between terminal No. 10 (Light Blue/Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250c and terminal No. 1 (Light Blue/Black wire) at 4x4 switch harness connector C161. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire(s) and retest.
