Test T: Safety Belt Warning Indicator Light Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Properly

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect NGS/WDS tester. Turn ignition to RUN position. Perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If DTC B1426 or B1428 is retrieved, go to step  3. If DTC B1342 is retrieved, go to step  16. If no DTCs are recorded, go to next step.
  2. Using NGS/WDS tester, observe GEM PID D_SBELT while connecting and disconnecting driver seat belt. If PID D_SBELT reads correctly, go to next step. If PID D_SBELT does not read correctly, go to step  8.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. If safety belt warning indicator is illuminated, go to step  12. If safety belt indicator is not illuminated, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If safety belt warning indicator remains on after 60 second prove out time, go to step  14. If safety belt warning indicator does not remain on after 60 second prove out, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe GEM PID SBLTLMP while buckling and unbuckling drivers seat belt. If PID SBLTLMP displays OFF when buckled and ON when unbuckled, go to step  16. If safety belt warning indicator does not operate correctly, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM connector C240a and instrument cluster connector C250a. Measure resistance of Dark Green/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 13 at harness connector C240a and terminal No. 9 at instrument cluster harness connector C250a. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest.
  7. Connect instrument cluster connector C250a. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 13 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) at GEM harness connector C240a. If safety belt warning indicator illuminates, reconnect all connectors and go to step  16. If safety belt warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step  17.
  8. Turn ignition switch to lock position. Disconnect safety belt switch harness connector C302. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect NGS/WDS tester. Monitor GEM PID D_SBELT while connecting and disconnecting a fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Brown/Light Blue wire) at safety belt switch harness connector C302. If PID reads correctly, go to next step. If PID does not read correctly, go to step  10.
  9. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) at safety belt switch harness connector C302. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace safety belt switch. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire and retest.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C240a. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 4 (Brown/Light Blue wire) at GEM harness connector C240a. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Blue wire and retest.
  11. Measure resistance of Brown/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 4 at GEM harness connector C240a and terminal No. 1 at safety belt switch harness connector C302. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, reconnect all connectors and go to step  16. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/Light Blue wire and retest.
  12. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C240a. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 13 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) at GEM harness connector C240a. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step  16.
  13. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250a. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 13 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) at GEM harness connector C240a. If battery voltage is present repair short to power in Dark Green/Light Green wire. If battery voltage is not present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  14. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250a. See Figure. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to step  17. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
  15. Disconnect GEM connector C240a. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250a. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Light Green wire and retest.
  16. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace Generic Electronic Module (GEM). See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If problem does not exist, then system is operating properly at this time, clear any DTCs and retest.
  17. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove SAFETY BELT WARNING indicator light bulb. Test bulb for continuity. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster. If bulb is not okay, replace bulb.
