Test S: Door Ajar Warning Indicator Light Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) or Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. Clear continuous DTCs. Perform GEM self-test again. If DTC B1323 or B1325 is retrieved, go to step  3. If DTC B1355 is retrieved, go to step  9. If DTC B1342 is retrieved, go to step  12. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step.
  2. Using NGS/WDS tester, observe GEM PID DRAJRL while opening and closing each door. If PID DRAJRL reads correctly, go to next step. If PID DRAJRL does not read correctly, check interior light circuits. See INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. If door ajar indicator is illuminated, go to step  8. If door ajar is not illuminated, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If door ajar indicator remains on after 5 second prove out, go to step  10. If door ajar indicator does not remain on after 5 second prove out, go to next step.
  5. Observe door ajar indicator light while triggering door ajar active command mode ON and OFF. If door ajar light functions properly, go to step  12. If door ajar light does not function properly, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM connector C240a and instrument cluster connector C250c. Measure resistance of Dark Green/Orange wire between terminal No. 11 at GEM harness connector C240a and terminal No. 2 at instrument cluster harness connector C250c. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Orange wire and retest.
  7. Connect instrument cluster harness connector C250c. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 11 (Dark Green/Orange wire) at GEM connector C240a. If door ajar indicator illuminates, go to step  12. If door ajar light does not illuminate, reconnect all connectors and go to step  13.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM module harness connector C240c. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 11 (Dark Green/Orange wire) at GEM harness connector C240a. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step  12.
  9. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C250c. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 11 (Dark Green/Orange wire) at GEM harness connector C240a. See Figure. If battery voltage is present, repair short to power in Dark Green/Orange wire and retest. If battery voltage is not present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  10. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Orange wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250c. See Figure. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to step  13. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
  11. Disconnect GEM harness connector C240c. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Orange wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250c. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Orange wire and retest.
  12. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace Generic Electronic Module (GEM). See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If problem does not exist, system is operating properly at this time. Clear any DTCs and retest.
  13. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove DOOR AJAR indicator bulb and measure resistance between terminals. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If bulb is not okay, replace light bulb.
