Test N: Charge System Warning Indicator Light Inoperative

  1. Check Central Junction Box (CJB) fuse No. 29 (5-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is not okay, replace fuse. If fuse fails again, repair short to ground in White/Yellow wire.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect generator connector C153a. Connect a 10-amp jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) at generator harness connector C153a. If charging system warning light illuminates, check charging system. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If charging system light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove charging system warning indicator light bulb. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check bulb continuity. If bulb is okay, go to next step. If bulb is not okay, replace bulb.
  4. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 7 (White/Yellow wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250a. See Figure. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in White/Yellow wire and retest.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance of Light Green/Red wire between terminal No. 8 at instrument cluster harness connector C250a and terminal No. 1 at harness connector C185 (diesel only) or terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Red wire) at generator harness connector C153a (gasoline). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Red wire and retest.
