Test J: Speedometer Reads Incorrectly, Odometer Okay

  1. Using NGS/WDS tester, observe GEM PID VSS_GEM while driving vehicle at a steady speed of 30 MPH (50 km/h). If necessary, use speed (cruise) control system (if equipped). When PID VSS_GEM indicates 30 MPH, check speedometer indicated speed. If speedometer reads 28-35 MPH (47-58 km/h), go to next step. If speedometer does not read 28-35 MPH (47-58 km/h), replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Using NGS/WDS tester, observe GEM PID VSS_GEM while driving vehicle at a steady speed of 60 MPH (100 km/h). When PID VSS_GEM indicates 60 MPH (100 km/h), check speedometer indicated speed. If speedometer reads 58-65 MPH (94-108 km/h), system is okay at this time. If speedometer does not read 58-65 MPH (94-108 km/h), replace instrument cluster.
