Test F: Oil Pressure Gauge Reads Incorrectly

NOTE: For proper operation of oil gauge, make sure oil is at correct level and oil pressure switch connector is securely attached. Ensure engine to chassis and engine to bulkhead ground straps are securely fastened. A momentary drop in oil pressure during hard braking is normal.
  1. Turn ignition switch to START position. Check oil pressure gauge. If both oil pressure gauge and oil pressure warning light indicate low oil pressure, go to next step. If both oil pressure gauge and oil pressure warning light do not indicate low oil pressure, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect oil pressure switch connector C135. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and oil pressure switch connector C135. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If oil pressure gauge reads normal pressure, check engine oil pressure. If pressure is within specification, replace oil pressure switch. If gauge does not read normal pressure, disconnect jumper wire and go to next step.
  3. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250b. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure resistance between terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire) at harness side of instrument cluster harness connector C250b and oil pressure switch harness connector C135. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Red wire.
