Test A: No Scan Tool Communication With Gem

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) connector C240d located in Central Junction Box (CJB). Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4 (Red wire) and terminal No. 16 (Black/Light Green wire) at GEM harness connector C240d. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace CJB and retest.
  2. Disconnect GEM connector C240a. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 26 (Pink/Orange wire) at GEM harness connector C240a. See Fig 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, test Generic Electronic Module (GEM). See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - EXCURSION & F250-F550 SUPER DUTY PICKUPS article. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Orange wire and retest.
