Removal & Installation (Excursion & F250-550 Super Duty Commercial)

Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Disable air bag. See DISABLING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove two back cover plugs from driver air bag module and remove bolts. Disconnect horn electrical connector. Disconnect air bag electrical connector. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & AIR BAG .
On tilt column models, unscrew and remove tilt lever from column. See Figure. Using key, turn lock cylinder to RUN position. Place a 1/8" (3.17 mm) diameter pin in hole located in outer edge of lock cylinder housing. Depress retaining pin and pull out lock cylinder. Remove upper steering column shroud from column.
Remove screws from upper and lower steering column shroud. Remove air bag sliding contact. See AIR BAG SLIDING CONTACT .
Disconnect electrical connector and remove screws from multi-function switch. Remove instrument panel steering column opening cover.
Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove transmission range indicator and position out of the way. On all models, remove steering column shaft bolt. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect shift cable from steering column.
On all models, disconnect brake shift interlock electrical connector. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect overdrive electrical connector. On all models, support steering column and remove 4 nuts. Remove steering column from vehicle.
To install steering column, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
