Drive Shaft Balancing: Escape

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear tires. Run vehicle with transmission in gear. Increase speed to maximum vibration level and record speed as baseline speed. Turn engine off. Check drive shaft components for worn part, and replace as needed.
  2. With transmission in gear, run vehicle at 60-70 MPH. Use a marker and contact drive shaft in front, middle and rear to indicate high spots. Turn engine off. To balance drive shaft, install 2 screw-type hose clamps 90 degrees apart. Operate vehicle and check vibration. Rotate clamps until vibration is at minimum level. Run vehicle at recorded baseline speed. If vibration is still present, rotate clamps away from each other until driveshaft is balanced.
