Test E: Low Range Indicator Always On
- Check LOW RANGE Indicator
Place vehicle in 2WD. Check LOW RANGE indicator light. Disconnect GEM C240C connector (22-pin). If LOW RANGE indicator light turns off, go to step 6. If indicator light remains illuminated, go to next step.
- Check Instrument Cluster
Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250C (12-pin). If indicator light turns off, go to next step. If indicator light remains illuminated, problem is in instrument cluster. Repair as necessary. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Check Circuit 975 (Brown/Yellow Wire) For Short To Ground
Measure resistance between ground and Brown/Yellow wire at terminal No. 8 of GEM connector C240C. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short in Brown/Yellow wire.
- Check PCM Connector
Disconnect PCM connector C1027 (104-pin). If indicator light turns off, go to next step. If indicator light remains illuminated, repair Light Blue/Black wire between PCM and instrument cluster connector. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Check For Correct PCM Installation
Check all connectors for corrosion, pushed out pins and proper seating. Repair as necessary. Connect any disconnected connectors. Operate vehicle and verify if problem is still present. If problem is still present, replace PCM. Clear DTCs and retest system. If problem is not present, system is operating normally. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Check For Correct Module Operation
Check all connectors for corrosion, pushed out pins and proper seating. Repair as necessary. Connect any disconnected connectors. Operate vehicle and verify if problem is still present. If problem is still present, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system. If problem is not present, system is operating normally. Clear DTCs and retest system.
