Test F: Turbine Shaft Speed & Output Shaft Speed Sensors: Testing

  1. Electronic Diagnostics

Ensure transmission 12-pin harness connector is fully seated, terminals are fully engaged in connector and in good condition. Repair as necessary. Install NGS tester to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Select DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK. Select PCM. Select PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD MODE. Select OSS and TSS PIDS. If vehicle enters PID DATA MONITOR AND RECORD MODE, remain in PID DATA MONITOR AND RECORD and go to next step. If vehicle does not enter PID DATA MONITOR AND RECORD MODE, repeat procedure. If vehicle will still not enter mode correctly, see SCAN TOOL UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  2. Drive Cycle Test

While monitoring appropriate sensor PID, drive vehicle through all upshifts and downshifts. Use the following list to diagnosis Output Shaft Speed (OSS) and Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensors:
    • If OSS or TSS sensor PIDs increase with engine and vehicle speed, erase all DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Repeat road test to verify condition is still present. If condition is still present, diagnose problem by symptom. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
    • If OSS or TSS sensor PIDs do not increase or decrease with engine or vehicle speed, inspect for open or short in vehicle harness, sensor, a PCM condition or internal hardware condition.
    • If OSS or TSS sensor signal is erratic, inspect for intermittent condition in internal/external harness, sensor or connector.
    • If OSS or TSS sensor signal is steady, go to next step.
  3. Check OSS & TSS Sensor Resistance

Disconnect suspect OSS or TSS sensor harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals of suspect OSS or TSS sensor. Use OSS & TSS SENSOR RESISTANCE  table for sensor resistances. If resistance is as specified, diagnose problem by symptom. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If resistance is not as specified, replace affected sensor.
    OSS & TSS SENSOR RESISTANCE
