Removal & Installation (Rear Cable & Conduit)

  1. Pull out on the bottom of the parking brake control boot to disengage it from the plastic retainer. If necessary, pull the control handle upward.
  2. CAUTION: The control boot is held in position by a small plastic retaining tab that engages a notch in the control handle. See Figure. Failure to use care when removing the boot can result in damage to the tab and unnecessary replacement of the boot.
  3. Using a small screwdriver, carefully lift the retainer tab and slide the boot upward.
  4. Using a screwdriver, push down on the tension arm until it is fully depressed. SeeFigure.
  5. Lock down the tension arm with a pin or screwdriver. See Figure.
  6. Remove the cable anchor pin. See Figure.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle.
  8. Disconnect the rear parking brake cables. See Figure.
  9. NOTE: Spring tabs on the cable end secure the cable to the body. See Fig 1.
  10. Remove the rear cable and conduit from the body.
  11. Remove the rear cable and conduit from the holder. See Fig 2.
  12. Remove the brake drum.
  13. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever. See Fig 3.
  14. Compress the spring tabs and remove the parking brake cable and conduit. See Fig 4.
  15. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Ensure that all retainers are secured and cables are routed correctly.
