Position range selector lever in "OD" position. On models equipped with column shift, hang a 3 lb. (1.4 kg) weight from range selector lever.
Loosen shift control cable retaining nut at transmission. Ensure shift control lever is in "OD" position. "OD" position is second detent from rear most position. Tighten shift control cable retaining nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove weight from range selector lever.
Check for park gear engagement. Start engine and ensure indicated gear positions match transmission response. Verify vehicle only starts in Park and Neutral, and back-up lights operate. If operation is not okay, check transmission range sensor adjustment. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR .
