Manual Locking Hubs (Excursion & Super Duty): Removal

1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and tire. Remove brake caliper and rotor. See DISC & DRUM - TRUCKS - EXCEPT VILLAGER article in BRAKES.
2. Remove retaining ring. See Fig 1 . Pull hub lock outward to remove. Remove axle shaft snap ring. See Fig 2 . Remove 3 thrust washers.
NOTE: Do not remove the ABS sensor from the bearing.
3. On vehicles equipped with ABS, disconnect wheel sensor connector and harness routing clips. See Fig 3 .
NOTE: The wheel hub and bearing is a slip fit design and should not require a puller to remove it.
4. On all vehicles, remove the 4 lock nuts. See Fig 4 . Remove the wheel hub and bearing.
5. Remove the brake disc shield. See Fig 5 .
6. On vehicles equipped with ABS, remove the bolt and the ABS sensor. See Fig 6 .
7. On all vehicles, position the hub in a soft-jawed vise. Install 2 nuts on the studs and use the inner nut to remove the studs. See Fig 7 . Remove and discard the "O" ring. See Fig 8 .
