Removal & Installation (F150 Pickup)

  1. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Disconnect both battery cables. Wait one minute to deplete air bag backup power supply. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & AIR BAG . Remove driver side air bag module.
  2. Remove steering column release lever from steering column. Remove ignition switch lock cylinder. See LOCK CYLINDER .
  3. Remove 3 upper and lower steering column shroud retaining screws, and remove upper and lower shroud. Remove air bag sliding contact. Remove multi-function switch. Remove instrument panel steering column opening cover.
  4. Remove ignition switch electrical connector. On A/T vehicles, remove transmission range indicator from steering column. Disconnect shift cable from steering column shift tube lever. Disconnect shift cable from steering column bracket. Disconnect overdrive electrical connector.
  5. On all models, remove steering column shaft bolt. Disconnect brake shift interlock electrical connector. Remove steering column nuts. Remove steering column
  6. To install steering column, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure all components operate properly.
