Test J: Charge Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C226. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 7 (White/Yellow wire) at instrument cluster connector C226. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in White/Yellow wire between instrument cluster and output of fuse No. 14 (5-amp) at central junction box.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect generator harness connector. Measure resistance of Light Green/Red wire between generator harness connector and terminal No. 5 at instrument cluster connector C226. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If vehicle is not a diesel with dual generators and resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster and terminal I at generator harness connector C198. If vehicle is diesel with dual generators and resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster and terminal No. 67 at PCM harness connector C154. Retest system.
  3. Remove charge system warning light bulb. Check continuity between terminals of bulb. If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system. If continuity does not exist, replace bulb. Retest system.
