Test H: Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative
- Engage parking brake. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If Red brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If Red brake warning indicator illuminates, system is okay.
- Disconnect parking brake switch connector C243. Connect 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and parking brake switch Light Green/Red wire. If Red brake warning indicator illuminates, replace parking brake switch. Retest system. If Red brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C226. Measure resistance of Purple/White wire between terminal No. 4 at instrument cluster connector C226 and parking brake switch connector C243. See Fig 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms and vehicle is equipped with 4 Wheel Anti-lock Brake System (4WABS), repair open circuit between instrument cluster, parking brake switch, and 4WABS harness connector (on diesel, also check circuit to PCM harness connector C153 and low vacuum warning switch harness connector C164). - Remove brake system warning light bulb. Check continuity between terminals of bulb. If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system. If continuity does not exist, replace bulb. Retest system.
