Test C: Oil Pressure Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Ensure oil level is okay. Verify oil pressure switch wire is securely connected. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If oil pressure gauge indicates low, go to next step. If oil pressure gauge does not indicate low, go to step  5.
  2. Start engine. If oil pressure gauge indicates normal oil pressure, check for intermittent problem. If oil pressure gauge does not indicate normal oil pressure, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C224. Start engine. Measure resistance between terminals No. 6 (White/Red wire) and No. 5 (Black/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C224. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect oil pressure switch. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and White/Red wire terminal at oil pressure switch connector C238. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 6 (White/Red) at instrument cluster harness connector C224. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace oil pressure switch. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Red wire between instrument cluster and oil pressure switch.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C224. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C224. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect oil pressure switch harness connector C238. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire) and instrument cluster harness connector C224. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Red wire between instrument cluster and oil pressure switch connector. Retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace oil pressure switch. Retest system.
