Diagnostic Aids

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2003 Ford RV Cutaway, 2003 Ford Pickup, 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2003 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2003 Ford Excursion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: After each service or repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. Clear DTCs and repeat QUICK TEST  procedures to ensure all electronic engine control systems are working properly and DTCs are no longer present.

Perform this test when directed by QUICK TEST. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) sensor may also be referred to as a throttle pedal position sensor or an accelerator pedal position sensor. This test is only intended to diagnose the following components and circuits:

Fault Detection & Management -  Any detected malfunction of ETC will illuminate CHECK ENGINE light. ETC signal that is detected out of range (high or low) by PCM will cause engine to ignore ETC signal and will only allow engine to operate at low idle. If a disagreement in state of idle validation input and ETC sensor input is detected by PCM, engine will only be allowed to operate at low idle.

NOTE: ETC sensor was used on F650-750 starting in October 2002.
