Diagnostic Aids

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2003 Ford RV Cutaway, 2003 Ford Pickup, 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2003 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2003 Ford Excursion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

NOTE: Water In Fuel (WIF) sensor may also be referred to as fuel heater.

Perform this test when directed by QUICK TEST. This test is only intended to diagnose the following components and circuits:

Water In Fuel (WIF) sensor is used to detect water in fuel system and is located in fuel filter housing. WIF sensor is monitored by PCM. If PCM detects water for more than 5 seconds, it will set a Continuous Memory DTC P1140 and turn on WATER IN FUEL Indicator Light (WIFIL).
