Actions To Repair
- Fill steering pump to specified level and purge the steering system. See BLEEDING THE STEERING SYSTEM under LUBRICATION.
- Fill steering gear to specified level and purge the steering system. See BLEEDING THE STEERING SYSTEM under LUBRICATION.
- See EXTERNAL LEAKAGE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Check accessory belt tension. For 1998-99 models, see SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING - CARS article in ENGINE COOLING. For 2000 models, see SPECIFICATIONS - CARS article in ENGINE COOLING.
- Repair/install a new hose or cooler as necessary. See FLUID COOLER and/or HOSE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check PSP switch. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTIC article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Install a new power steering pump pulley. See POWER STEERING PUMP under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- See PUMP FLOW & PRESSURE TEST under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Clean or install new hose or cooler components as necessary. See FLUID COOLER and/or HOSE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Inspect steering system for contamination. Flush the system. See BLEEDING THE STEERING SYSTEM under LUBRICATION.
- Bleed the steering system. See BLEEDING THE STEERING SYSTEM under LUBRICATION.
