Tie Rod Ends: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Loosen tie-rod end locknut and remove the retaining nut. See Figure.
  3. CAUTION: When the tie-rod end is separated from the wheel knuckle the ball joint should be protected to prevent damage.
  4. Using a Ball Joint Separator TOOL-3290-D (211-001), release the tie-rod end from wheel knuckle. See Figure.
  5. NOTE: Make a note of the number of turns required to remove the tie-rod end.
  6. Remove the tie-rod end and tie-rod end locknut. See Figure.
