Removal & Installation (Vehicles With 2.0L Engines)
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove lower splash shield. See Figure.
- Remove the accessory drive belt. For 1998-99 models, see SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING - CARS article in ENGINE COOLING. For 2000 models, see SPECIFICATIONS - CARS article in ENGINE COOLING.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove accessory drive belt upper guard. See Figure.
- Detach high-pressure tube support bracket. See Figure.
- Disconnect the power steering pump low-pressure hose. See Fig 1. Drain all fluid into a suitable container.
- Detach coolant hose retaining bracket. Figure.
- Using a Power Steering Pump Pulley Remover 211-016 (T69L-10300-B), remove power steering pump pulley. See Figure.
- Disconnect power steering high-pressure tube union. See Figure.
- Remove four steering pump retaining bolts and the power steering pump. See Fig 2.
- Push a new O-ring onto a Teflon Seal Expander, 211-D027 (D90P-3517-A) or equivalent. Position the Teflon Seal Expander, 211-D027 (D90P-3517-A) or equivalent, onto the union and install the O-ring seal. See Figure.
- For installation, reverse removal procedures. Tighten the accessory drive belt upper guard bolts and coolant hose retaining bracket bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Bleed the power steering system. See BLEEDING THE STEERING SYSTEM LUBRICATION.
NOTE:
If a new power steering pump is being installed the unions that are supplied fitted to pump should be removed and saved for future use.
NOTE:
When using a Power Steering Pump Pulley Installer 211-185 (T91P-3A733-A) to install the power steering pump pulley, make sure pulley is flush with end of power steering pump shaft.
