Power Steering Pump: Installation

NOTE: If a new power steering pump assembly is being installed the fittings that are supplied with the new power steering pump assembly should be removed and saved for future use.
  1. Push a new O-ring onto a Teflon Seal Expander, 211-D027 (D90P-3517-A) or equivalent. Position the Teflon Seal Expander, 211-D027 (D90P-3517-A) or equivalent, onto the union and install the O-ring seal. See Figure.
  2. Install power steering line union. See Figure.
  3. Install power steering pump and retaining plate. See Figure and Figure
  4. NOTE: Do not fully tighten the bolts until the accessory drive belt is installed.
  5. Install power steering pump pulley. See Figure.
  6. Install the powertrain mount. See Figure.
  7. Install coolant expansion tank. Install retaining bolts and connect electrical connections. See Figure. Tighten retaining bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Install powertrain mount bracket. Tighten the mounting bracket bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . See Figure.
  9. Remove powertrain support. See Figure.
  10. Install powertrain cover. See Figure.
  11. Install the power steering line and hose to power steering pump. Connect power steering high-pressure tube, and power steering hose. Attach the tube retaining bracket. See Figure.
  12. Install accessory drive belt. For 1998-99 models, see SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING - CARS article in ENGINE COOLING. For 2000 models, see SPECIFICATIONS - CARS article in ENGINE COOLING.
  13. Tighten power steering pump pulley bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  14. Bleed the power steering system. See BLEEDING THE STEERING SYSTEM  LUBRICATION.
