Removal (Vehicles With 2.5L Engine)

    NOTE: Make sure the road wheels are in straight ahead position.
  1. Center steering wheel and lock in position.
  2. Remove bolt and rotate clamp plate to disconnect steering column shaft from flexible coupling. See Figure.
  3. CAUTION: When removing the floor seal do not damage the sealing clips.
  4. Release retaining clips and disconnect upper retainer. Remove floor seal. See Figure.
  5. Remove flexible coupling from steering gear. See Figure.
  6. Disconnect power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector and remove the PSP switch. See Figure.
  7. Remove power steering high-pressure line support bracket retaining bolt. Detach power steering high-pressure line from power steering pump and disconnect power steering fluid reservoir hose from power steering pump. Disconnect the power steering high-pressure line from power steering pump. See Fig 1 and allow all the fluid to drain into a suitable container. .

  8. Raise and support the vehicle.
  9. Remove radiator splash shield. See Figure.
  10. Remove lower splash shield. See Figure.
  11. Detach the bumper support brackets. See Figure.
  12. Detach the power steering fluid cooler lines retaining bracket. See Figure.
  13. Remove secondary catalytic converter.
  14. Loose rear support insulator bolts and remove rear support insulator center bolt. See Fig 2.

  15. Loosen front support insulator mounting nuts. Loosen front support insulator center bolt. See Figure.
  16. Using a suitable transmission jack, support the front subframe assembly.
  17. Loosen front subframe assembly front retaining bolts two complete turns. Remove front subframe assembly rear retaining bolts. Lower front subframe assembly to gain access to power steering gear. See Figure.
  18. CAUTION: When the steering gear unions are disconnected the steering gear valve body ports must be capped to prevent dirt ingress.

  19. Disconnect power steering high-pressure line union. Allow all fluid to drain into a suitable container. See Fig 3.
  20. Detach power steering high-pressure line support bracket. See Figure.
  21. CAUTION: When the steering gear unions are disconnected the steering gear valve body ports must be capped to prevent dirt ingress.

  22. Detach return line clamp and disconnect return line union. Remove power steering line. See Fig 4.
