Econoline (Fuel Tank Solenoid Valve Stuck Closed Or Inoperative)

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: On vehicles equipped with an extended range fuel tank, manual lockdown valve jackscrew can be reached through an access hole in the vapor retaining cover.
NOTE: All fuel tank solenoid valves must be in the locked down position.
  1. Turn manual lockdown valve jackscrew inward on fuel tank solenoid valve(s). See Figure. Perform LPG FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE (FUEL LINE VENTING)  procedure. Disconnect fuel fill line from fuel fill valve. Connect Venting Hose (134-00118) and adapter to fuel fill line. See Figure.
  2. Connect Fuel Filler Neck Venting Kit (134-00117) to fuel venting hose and adapter. See Figure. Connect venting hose assembly to fuel filler neck venting kit. Connect venting hose assembly to an approved vent stack.
  3. Connect Grounding Cable (134-00121) to fuel fill line connection. See Figure. Connect grounding cable to ground rod. Remove manual lockdown valve from fuel tank solenoid valve of fuel tank being vented.
  4. WARNING: Ensure jackscrew in manual override tool is retracted fully (counterclockwise) prior to instating fuel tank solenoid valve. Instating override tool in the venting position will cause natural gas to be released immediately.
CAUTION: Once the fuel tank solenoid valve has been opened using the manual override tool, the fuel tank solenoid valve must be replaced.
  5. Install manual override tool into fuel tank solenoid of the tank to be vented. Slowly turn manual override tool jackscrew inward until fuel flows. Observe gauge pressure of fuel filler neck venting kit. Pressure reading should be tank pressure. Slowly open the bleed valve on the fuel filler neck venting kit and allow contents of LPG fuel tank to vent through vent stack. Venting may take more than an hour.
  6. Vent fuel tank until fuel flow stops. Remove manual override tool from fuel tank solenoid valve. Install fuel tank solenoid manual lockdown valve. Turn manual lockdown valve jackscrew inward on fuel tank solenoid valve. Repeat this procedure until all affected fuel tanks are vented. Install fuel fill line onto the fuel fill valve when completed.
