Steering Gear: Installation

  1. Install new O-ring seals on the power steering lines.
  2. Install the steering gear.
    • Install the steering gear through the LH wheel opening.
  3. Install the 2 steering gear bracket-to-gear bolts and nuts.
    • Tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).
  4. Install the 2 steering gear bracket-to-crossmember bolts and nuts.
    • Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
  5. Install the 2 outer tie-rod ends on the steering gear.
  6. Position the 2 outer tie-rod ends on the wheel knuckles and install the nuts.
    • Tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).
  7. Tighten the 2 outer tie-rod end lock nuts.
    • Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
  8. Connect the power steering high pressure line and install the power steering line clamp plate bolt.
    • Tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
  9. Position the oil drip shield and install the 4 bolts.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  10. Install the skid plate and the 4 skid plate bolts, if equipped.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  11. Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to STEERING SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
