Disassembly and Assembly

  1. Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
  2. Remove the clockspring. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  3. Remove the 3 screws and the clockspring bracket.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the brake shift interlock solenoid.
  5. NOTE: Front shown, side similar.

  6. Using a suitable tool, press the locking pins and turn the switches clockwise 90 degrees to remove the brake shift interlock harness.
  7. Using a suitable tool, remove and discard the tilt lever.

  8. Remove the ignition switch.
    • Release the 2 locking tabs.

  9. Remove the screw and the shift lever and boot.
  10. NOTE: A new tilt lever must be installed.
  11. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
