Canister Vent Control Solenoid Closing Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Canister vent control solenoid must not be energized for more than 9 minutes at one time. Once canister vent control solenoid is energized and de-energized, adequate time must be allowed for component to cool adequately. Failure to allow component to cool, may create a false failure in diagnostics, causing unnecessary repairs.
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) and select OUTPUT TEST MODE under ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Select FTP and FTP V PID from PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD menu. Select ALL OFF mode. Close canister vent solenoid by pressing START button on scan tool.
