Starter Motor Drive Gear and Flywheel Ring Gear Inspection

- Check the wear patterns on the starter drive and the flywheel ring gear. If the wear pattern is not normal, install a new starter motor. For additional information, refer to STARTER MOTOR - 4.2L or STARTER MOTOR - 4.6L, 5.4L .
- If the starter drive gear and the flywheel ring gear are not fully meshing or the gears are milled or damaged, install a new starter motor. For additional information, refer to STARTER MOTOR - 4.2L or STARTER MOTOR - 4.6L, 5.4L . Install a new flywheel or flexplate. For additional information, refer to ENGINE - 4.2L , ENGINE - 4.6L (2V) or ENGINE - 5.4L (3V) .
