Valve Cover - RH: Removal

  1. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) and bracket. For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .
  2. Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  3. Remove the bolt and position the transmission fluid level indicator tube aside.

  4. Release the 5 engine wiring harness retainers from the valve cover stud bolts.
  5. Remove the 3 RH valve cover bolts.
  6. Remove the 8 RH valve cover studs.
  7. Remove the nuts and position the suction accumulator aside.

  8. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
  9. Remove the RH valve cover.
    • Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
    • Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
