Intake Manifold: Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.
  1. Disconnect the fuel supply hose spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  4. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  5. Release the upper radiator hose clamp and position the upper radiator hose aside.
  6. Release the heater hose clamp and remove and position the heater hose aside.
  7. Disconnect the vapor tube quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  8. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
  9. Remove the power steering reservoir support bracket bolt.
  10. Remove the 2 power steering reservoir support bracket bolts and the power steering reservoir support bracket.
  11. Disconnect the injection pressure (IPR) sensor electrical connector.
  12. Disconnect the IPR sensor vacuum connector.
  13. Remove the brake booster bracket nut and disconnect the brake booster tube and position aside the brake booster bracket and tube.
  14. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module-to-exhaust manifold tube.
  15. Disconnect the EGR system module vacuum and electrical connectors.
  16. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  17. Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.

  18. If equipped, disconnect the vacuum hose.

  19. Disconnect the throttle body (TB) spacer coolant hose from the intake manifold.

  20. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
  21. Remove the generator battery cable nut and the generator battery cable.
  22. Release the generator wiring harness retainer.
  23. Remove the 4 generator support bracket bolts and the generator support bracket.
  24. Remove the 2 lower generator bolts and the generator.
  25. Disconnect the 8 fuel injector electrical connectors.
  26. Disconnect the 8 ignition coil electrical connectors.
  27. Remove the 8 ignition coil bolts and the 8 ignition coils.
  28. Disconnect the electronic throttle control electrical connector.
  29. Release the PCV coolant hose clamp and remove the PCV coolant return hose.
  30. Remove the 2 thermostat housing bolts and the thermostat housing and discard the O-ring seal.
  31. Remove the thermostat.
  32. Detach the wiring harness from the left valve cover and position aside.
  33. Remove the 9 intake manifold bolts.
  34. Remove the intake manifold and discard the RH and LH intake manifold gaskets.
