Cylinder Head: Disassembly

  1. Using the special tools, compress the valve spring and remove the valve spring retainer keys.

  2. Remove the valve spring retainer, the valve spring, the valve stem seal and valve.
    • Discard the valve seal.

  3. Repeat the above steps and remove all of the valve springs, valve stem seals and valves.
    • Discard the valve stem seals.
  4. Install the special tools on the camshaft.

  5. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt, washer and the camshaft sprocket.
  6. Remove the special tool from the camshaft.
  7. Remove the camshaft sprocket spacer.
  8. Remove the camshaft bearing cap bolts, camshaft bearing caps and the camshaft.
  9. Clean and inspect the camshaft bearing caps.
    • One of the bearing caps contains an oil flow restriction groove. Make sure the groove is free of foreign material.

  10. NOTE: The hydraulic lash adjusters are positional. Mark each hydraulic lash adjuster for installation in its original location.

  11. Remove the hydraulic lash adjusters.
