Axle Shaft: Installation

- Lubricate the lip of the axle shaft oil seal with grease.
- Position the 2 differential pinion gears and rotate them to align with the pinion shaft holes.
- Install the 2 axle shafts.
- Install the U-washers.
- Position the 2 U-washers on the button end of the axle shafts.
- Pull the axle shafts outward.
- Install the differential pinion shaft.
- Align the hole in the differential pinion shaft with the differential case lock bolt hole.
- Install a new differential pinion shaft lock bolt.
- Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
- Install the brake disc.
- Install the disc brake caliper and the disc brake caliper bolts.
- Tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- Install the differential housing cover. For additional information, refer to DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING COVER .
NOTE:
Install the left and right differential side gears and clutch packs, if removed.
CAUTION:
Do not damage the axle shaft oil seal.
CAUTION:
Do not damage the rubber O-rings in the U-washer grooves.
NOTE:
If a new pinion shaft lock bolt is unavailable, coat the threads with threadlock prior to installation.
