Front Drive Axle Halfshaft Rotation Speed

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
  2. Remove the front differential cover and allow the fluid to drain.
  3. Remove and discard the differential pinion shaft retaining bolt.
  4. Remove the differential pinion shaft.
  5. Remove and discard both axle shaft snap rings.
  6. Push the axle shafts outboard beyond the face of the differential side gears.
  7. Place a Traction-Lok® differential clutch spring between the differential side gears.
    • Use a soft-faced hammer to install the differential clutch spring.
  8. Install new axle shaft snap rings.
  9. Install the pinion shaft and a new pinion shaft lock bolt.
  10. Install the differential housing cover. Refer to REAR DRIVE AXLE/DIFFERENTIAL - FORD 8.8-INCH RING GEAR , REAR DRIVE AXLE/DIFFERENTIAL - FORD 9.75-INCH RING GEAR or REAR DRIVE AXLE/DIFFERENTIAL - FORD 10.25-INCH RING GEAR .
  11. Fill the front axle with the specified fluid and amount.
