Diagnostic Aids
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Perform this test when instructed during QUICK TEST or another SYSTEM TEST. This test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Distributor.
- Power transistor.
- PCM input signal.
- Ignition coil.
- Vehicle Power (VPWR) circuit to ignition coil.
- Ignition wires.
To prevent replacement of good components, visually inspect the following items before performing test:
- Distributor cap and rotor.
- Spark plugs.
- Ignition wires.
- Discharged battery.
- Wiring connections at distributor and coil.
- Fuses.
- Timing belt.
For DTC P1320, resistance across ignition check signal circuit in-line resistor should be approximately 2200 ohms at 77°F (25°C).
