Intermittent Faults

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Intermittent faults may cause Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) to flicker or illuminate and go out after the intermittent fault goes away. However, corresponding DTC will be retained in PCM memory. If related malfunction does not reoccur within a certain time frame, related DTC will be erased from PCM memory. Intermittent faults may be caused by sensor, connector or wiring problems. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - VILLAGER article.
