Pinpoint Test A: The Daytime Running Lamps Are Inoperative

- A1 VERIFY THE LOW BEAMS OPERATE
- Place the headlamp switch in the low beams position.
- Do the low beams operate correctly?
- Yes : PLACE the headlamp switch in the OFF position. GO to A2.
- No : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .
- A2 CHECK THE DRL PARKING BRAKE RELAY CIRCUIT
- Key in ON position.
- Engage and release the parking brake.
- Does the parking brake warning indicator illuminate when the parking brake is engaged and go off when the parking brake is released?
- Yes : GO to A3.
- No : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
- A3 CHECK DRL PARKING BRAKE RELAY (NO. 1)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: DRL Parking Brake Relay (No. 1).
- Carry out the relay component test for the DRL parking brake relay. Refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Is the DRL parking brake relay OK?
- Yes : GO to A4.
- No : INSTALL a new DRL parking brake relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A4 CHECK CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the DRL parking brake relay pin 3, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : REINSTALL the DRL parking brake relay. GO to A6.
- No : GO to A5.
- A5 CHECK CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: CJB C270h.
- Measure the resistance between the DRL parking brake relay pin 3, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side and the CJB C270h pin 7, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A6 CHECK THE DRL RELAY NO. 2
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: DRL Relay No. 2.
- Carry out the component test for the DRL relay No. 2. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING - F250-F550 SUPER DUTY PICKUP for component testing.
- Is the DRL relay No. 2 OK?
- Yes : GO to A7.
- No : INSTALL a new DRL relay No. 2. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A7 CHECK CIRCUIT 175 (BK/YE) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the DRL relay No. 2 pin 3, circuit 175 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : REINSTALL the DRL relay No. 1. GO to A8.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A8 CHECK THE RELAY NO. 3
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: DRL Relay No. 3.
- Carry out the component test for DRL relay No. 3. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING - F250-F550 SUPER DUTY PICKUP for component testing.
- Is the DRL relay No. 3 OK?
- Yes : GO to A9.
- No : INSTALL a new DRL relay No. 3. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A9 CHECK CIRCUIT 1032 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in ON position.
- Headlamps off.
- Measure the voltage from the DRL relay No. 3 pin 85, circuit 1032 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to A10.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A10 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK)
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the resistance between the DRL relay No. 3 pin 86, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to A11.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A11 CHECK THE DRL RESISTOR
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: DRL Resistor C196.
- Measure the resistance between the DRL resistor pin 1 (component side), and DRL resistor pin 2 (component side).
- Is the resistance between 0.275 and 0.325 ohm?
- Yes : GO to A12.
- No : INSTALL a new DRL resistor. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A12 CHECK CIRCUIT 554 (YE/BK) FOR VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage between the DRL resistor C196, circuit 554 (YE/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : REPAIR circuit 471 (OG/LG). TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR circuit 554 (YE/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
