Pinpoint Test E: The Chime Sounds When The Driver Door Is Ajar (No Key In The Ignition And Headlights Off)

- E1 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ILLUMINATION OPERATION
- Check the instrument cluster illumination.
- Is the instrument cluster illumination operating correctly?
- Yes : GO to E2.
- No : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION to continue diagnosis of the instrument cluster illumination.
- E2 CHECK KEY-IN-IGNITION SWITCH
- Disconnect: Clockspring C218a.
- Does the chime continue to sound?
- Yes : GO to E3.
- No : INSTALL a new key-in-ignition warning switch. REFER to KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
- E3 CHECK CIRCUIT 158 (BK/PK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster.
- Measure the resistance between the clockspring C218a pin 1, circuit 158 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to E4.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
