Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.
WARNING: This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

    All vehicles 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .

    4. Midship fuel tank equipped vehicles 

  4. Remove the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to FUEL TANK - MIDSHIP .

    5. Aft of axle fuel tank equipped vehicles 

  5. Disconnect the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling at fuel pump module. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .

    6. All vehicles 

  6. Disconnect the fuel supply tube spring lock coupling at the fuel rail. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  7. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube quick connect coupling at the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  8. Disconnect the fuel supply tube and the fuel vapor tube from the position retainer at the rear of the engine.
  9. Disconnect the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling at the fuel filter inlet. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  10. Disconnect the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling at the fuel filter outlet. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  11. Disconnect the fuel supply tubes from the position retainers.
  12. Remove the fuel supply tubes.
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
