Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.
WARNING: This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

    All vehicles 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  4. Midship and aft of axle fuel tank equipped vehicles 

  5. Remove the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to FUEL TANK - MIDSHIP  or FUEL TANK - AUXILIARY, DIESEL .
  6. Aft of axle fuel tank equipped vehicles 

  7. Disconnect the fuel supply and return tube quick connect couplings at fuel pump module. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  8. All vehicles 

  9. Disconnect the fuel supply and return tube spring lock couplings at the fuel rail. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  10. Disconnect the 2 fuel tube spring lock couplings and the 2 fuel tube quick connect couplings from the fuel conditioning module. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
  11. Disconnect the fuel supply and return tubes from the position retainers.
  12. Remove the front and rear fuel supply and return tubes.
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
