Principles of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Ford Pickup, 2005 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2005 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2005 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The vehicle security module is on the universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART)-based protocol (UBP) communication network. To support several vehicle subsystems, the vehicle security module permits intermodule and diagnostic tool communications.

The vehicle security module controls the power door lock system. The vehicle security module monitors the door lock/unlock switch inputs from the interior door lock switches. When the vehicle security module receives an unlock/lock command from any door lock control switch, the vehicle security module will activate the door lock actuators.

For additional information on the door lock systems, refer to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS .

The vehicle security module controls the autolamp subsystem. The autolamp subsystem provides light-sensitive automatic on/off control of the headlamps and parking lamps. For additional information, refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .
