- F1 CHECK THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER C2142B FOR DAMAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Trailer Brake Controller C2142b.
- Inspect the trailer brake controller C2142b for damage.
- Is the trailer brake controller C2142b OK?
- Yes : GO to F2.
- No : REPAIR the trailer brake controller C2142b as necessary. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
- F2 CHECK CIRCUITS 1908 (WH) AND 1909 (BK) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) C251 AND THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER C2142B
- Measure the resistance between the trailer brake controller C2142b pin 6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251 pin 6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side.
- Measure the resistance between the trailer brake controller C2142b pin 7, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251 pin 14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to F3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
- F3 CHECK FOR CORRECT TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER OPERATION
- Disconnect all the trailer brake controller connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the trailer brake controller connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new trailer brake controller. REFER to AUXILIARY BRAKE SYSTEM . CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). REPEAT the self-test.
