Pinpoint Test N: The Turn Signal Lamps Are Inoperative - Signal Mirror

  1. N1 VERIFY THE POWER MIRROR OPERATION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Verify the operation of the power mirrors.
    • Do the power mirrors operate correctly? 
    • Yes  : If both signal mirrors are inoperative, REPAIR circuit 57 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.

      If one signal mirror is inoperative, GO to N2.

    • No  : REFER to REAR VIEW MIRRORS to continue diagnostics for the power mirrors.
  2. N2 CHECK CIRCUIT 3 (LG/WH) (LH MIRROR) OR 2 (WH/LB) (RH MIRROR) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Mirror.
    • Place the hazard switch in the ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between LH outside rear view mirror C521-4, circuit 3 (LG/WH), harness side and ground; or between RH outside rear view mirror C601-4, circuit 2 (WH/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Does the voltage alternate between 0 and greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to N3.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. N3 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between LH outside rear view mirror C521-5, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground; and between RH outside rear view mirror C601-5, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : If the vehicle is not equipped with a telescopic trailer tow mirror, INSTALL a new outside rear view mirror. REFER to REAR VIEW MIRRORS . TEST the system for normal operation.

      If the vehicle is equipped with a telescopic trailer tow mirror, TURN the hazard switch OFF. GO to N4.

    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. N4 CHECK THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY (POWER CIRCUIT) 
    • Connect: Inoperative Mirror.
    • Remove the mirror case front.
    • Place the hazard switch in the ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between mirror lamp module connector pin 3, harness side and ground.

    • Does the voltage alternate between 0 and greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : TURN the hazard switch OFF. GO to N5.
    • No  : INSTALL a new outside rear view mirror. REFER to REAR VIEW MIRRORS . TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. N5 CHECK THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY (GROUND CIRCUIT) 
    • Measure the resistance between mirror lamp module connector pin 2, harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new mirror case front. REFER to REAR VIEW MIRRORS . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : INSTALL a new outside rear view mirror. REFER to REAR VIEW MIRRORS . TEST the system for normal operation.
