Compressed Natural Gas System
Fuel from Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel tank flows through the fuel tank lockoff valve, high pressure shutoff valve, and coalescent fuel filter to the gas regulator. See Figure. The gas regulator provides a consistent system operating fuel pressure of approximately 100 psi (7 kg/cm2 ). Fuel is then allowed to pass to the compuvalve. The compuvalve then meters CNG according to demand, calculates spark advance for maximum power and provides CNG storage pressure (level) to the instrument cluster fuel gauge when ALT/GAS fuel switch is in ALT mode.
A combination of sensors and input signals from PCM are used to monitor the engine and operating environment to provide closed loop control of CNG. Through speed density calculations, the compuvalve determines air flow and fuel flow while adjusting the air/fuel mixture during each spark event using internal injector valves. CNG is then sent into the fuel rails and to the intake air system through the fuel injector sleeve assemblies.
